Basic Physics

A CYCLIST was left stunned and barely able to stagger after a 4WD ploughed into him and the driver failed to stop at the accident last week.

Whitford resident Matt Hinton, 20, was riding his road-racing bike down Pakuranga Rd just after 6pm last Thursday, when a 4WD turned in front of him, knocking him to the ground.

(Howick and Pakuranga Times)

A racing-style bicycle is, at a conservative estimate, going 25-30 km/h.

That's 25,000 metres per hour.

That's 416 metres per minute.

That's 7 metres per second.

Please don't turn in front of him.

In the few seconds it takes you to see him and decide to turn anyway, he's covered half the distance of an Olympic swimming pool.

Don't be an idiot.
